Learning Objectives Two learning objectives that we learned in this lesson were determining the number of significant numbers and determining the final place of significance. Determining the number of significant numbers are important because when you are calculating something and don't get the right amount of significant figures you could mess everything up, this is important in many different aspects of the world/ work field. Determining the final place of significance is also important because if you are giving someone your calculations, if the decimal is not in the right place something could go very wrong. Accuracy is very important in any work field or any calculations itself. The objectives we learned here are very important especially in the medical field. For example if a doctor is dealing with a patient who needs a certain amount of medication, if not enough the patient could get more sick or be in pain, but at the same time too much of the medication could cause an overdose if it was a small child or cause damage to the patients body. That is why accuracy and precision is important in the medical field.
Career Spotlight! Nursing is a profession in the medical field, which is focused on the care for individuals. Nurses are often in charge of patient information & giving medication. Getting the exact and right amount of medication is important as a nurse, they are giving dosages of medication that if it isn't exact could potentially cause little to severe damage. Even when a nurse is writing down blood pressure, temperature, or anything that the doctor needs, it all has to be exact. To become a nurse you have to have graduate level education with some medical hours, as in volunteering at a hospital. After you become a registered nurse many often go on to complete their bachelor's degree or master's in nursing or a specialty in the field they want to nurse in.
